Purrfect Circle

So this isn't really an RV issue. It's a pet owner issue. Pet owners - no matter where you live - understand this. We had a lot of loss over the last six months. We lost Nala in December 2016 and six months later we lost Ally. Starting as far back as Bailey who passed away in 2009 (our first adoptee, our first loss), we always had the internal struggle of "Should we adopt another?" We always opted against it since there were so many pets already, so many personalities to meld and age. When you have a pet with…

Stray Cat Strut

The question we see most often within RVing with Pets groups is "What do I do with the kitty litter?" When looking at floorpans, we insisted on having a bath and a half so the half bath would be dedicated to the cats. We intended on taking out the toilet in that bath and capping the plumbing. It would be used for a litter box and storage. As the build came closer, we thought "Hmmmm - it would be nice to be able to have both bathrooms". We found more uses for the second bath, particularly so guests wouldn't have to…

Ally Puppy

We haven't updated in a while because we have gone through a loss that we knew was coming but we were still thrown off by it. We did the research, prepared as much as we could, hired hospice during the last health scare, made judgement calls and enjoyed our time together as much as we could. And even with that, life sometimes sticks its middle finger up at you and says "But can you handle THIS?" Knowing what was going on with Ally internally, we opted to drive from Wyoming to Fort Collins CO to ensure we had access to in-home…

Pet Blues

We had to stop writing this post because as we were writing, our little dog Piper had horrible belly issues and we had to stop what we were doing and tend to her. It was disgusting. Gag reflexes were met (hi, gag reflex!). We have seen it before (little miss likes getting into the cat food despite the doggie traps we've created) but with  elderly pets, it is never pleasant. Luckily we found a good vet in our current area who knows the pets well. They've already nicknamed Piper "Pipey". She tends to win over every vet practice we enter due…

Bye, Dear Friend

Being on the road with pets is always a challenge when it comes to vet care. However, when it gets beyond needed the care of a vet - saying goodbye - it's even worse. You go through the emotions of the goodbye - someone who has been your companion for a very long time starts to deteriorate. Then you need to trust that your decision is the right one. For our girl Nala, we had made the decision. Right after Thanksgiving, she started to go outside the litter box. After the obligatory vet visit, we found out she was in…
